The assembly program is a one-time presentation, where the performing artist brings the artistry of the art form to your site. The presentation demonstrates the artist’s skills and includes the history and culture of the arts discipline.

 

BABA THE STORYTELLER

MAIRE CLERKIN

Baba the Storyteller has been a professional speaker since 1994 and is one of the few recognized U.S. born practitioners of the ancient West African storytelling craft known as Jaliyaa. He has received numerous awards over the years for his work as a folklorist, traditional harpist, storyteller, community activist and volunteer. Mr. Baba combines the artistic disciplines of music and storytelling in his presentations. His performance will challenge students’ imagination, while imparting valuable cultural, historical, and meta-curricula lessons.

Maire Clerkin is an Irish Storyteller and performing artist. In her show, 'Once Upon a Time in Ireland,’ she reads and enacts an enchanting fairy folk tale from Ireland’s rich culture. Myths and legends of supernatural creatures, spooky trees, wise old women and curious Little People will fire the imagination and delight everyone who joins in. Listen, watch and get involved in the crazy adventures of The Piper and the Pooka, Finn McCool and the Giant’s Causeway, The Pot of Gold, or The King’s Secret!

JOSEPH PECK

Twenty years of experience as a steelpan percussionist and music educator have informed his development of the Joseph Peck World Music Program - an innovative, performance-based class which exposes students to the important cultural and historical contributions of music. Students learn the building blocks of music (melody, harmony, and rhythm) in a supportive, creative, and interactive environment using percussion instruments such as steel drums (pans), hand drums, shakers, cowbells, and tamboo‐bamboo.

THE CHAMELEONS

The Chameleons are Keith Berger and Sharon Diskin, two of the foremost performers of mime-and-movement-based theatre in the world today. They have performed their critically acclaimed programs to the charm and delight of over a million children and adults worldwide. Using a combination of classical pantomime illusions, sound effects, music, and even the spoken word, THE CHAMELEONS’ transcend any one genre to create a total theatrical experience that is unforgettable for both young and old. The Chameleons offer three great programs especially designed for children – Mime Over Matter, Adventures in Space, and Wonder of Words. Each show includes audience participation and inspires awe and tons of laughter.
